June 3 is the 200th anniverary of the birth of Jefferson Davis. To honor the President of the Confederate States of America there will be special programs and celebrations all over the south.

LET US HEAR FROM YOU

We are asking our visitors to contribute to our own celebration issue which will be published in June. If you have a story or anecdote that somehow relates the 38th Alabama directly to President Davis, send it to us. Perhaps the president reviewed the troops of your great-grandfather during the war, or an ancestor of yours was related to Davis. Maybe you have a photo of the president posing with someone in the 38th. Share that with us. We will publish as many of your submissions as our space allows.

Major Celebratory Events

A grand bi-centennial birthday celebration is planned at the Alabama State Capitol Building on June 14, 2008. The event will be jointly sponsored by the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Order of the Confederate Rose, and the Alabama Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

There is also a great celebration to take place at Jefferson Davis's birthplace in Fairview, Kentucky, June 6-8.

ABOUT OUR WEB SITE

This site presents facts about the fates of the officers and enlisted men who belonged to the 38th Alabama Infantry Regiment of the Confederate Army. It is not a history but rather a resource for genealogical research.

We include an historical time line as background to the period: 1862-1865. Those who would like to learn more about this period will find a bibliography of recommended reading here.

MEDAL OF HONOR

This page lists the names of those men who were recognized for their bravery during the Battle at Chickamauga in September 1863.
