Note: The 2nd Regiment Alabama Infantry served from April 1861 under Colonel Harry Maury. It served at Fort Morgan and drilled as heavy artillery and manned the fort's guns. It ended service in one year at Fort Pillow, Tennessee, where the officers and men joined other organizations. Many of these men joined Colonel A. R. Lankford’s Company of re-enlisted men and became Co. I of the 38th Alabama Infantry. Colonel Lankford became Lt. Colonel of the 38th Alabama Infantry. Colonel Lankford was captured carrying the 38th’s Battleflag at Resaca, Georgia, while leading the Regiment.
